Recently the Petersburg repeater was reconfigured and had major antenna improvements made. If you are in the area please give it a try. Coverage should be noticeably improved in the tri-cities, southern Chesterfield and I-85, 95 and 295 as well as route 460 areas. Please send us reports.

On October 20-22, 2017 the DMRVA portable repeater will deploy to Camp Albright in Chesterfield County to support the scouting community and their JOTA activities.
The portable repeater will be active on 444.5375 MHz on site. Primary TG’s will be TAC 310 on TS1 and JOTA (907) on TS2, with both configured as always on. All other TG’s will be set for PTT for this event. Please note this talkgroup configuration is ONLY for the portable repeater and the JOTA TG will not be available on other DMRVA repeaters at this time. Full details are below.
RVAHams in conjunction with Richmond Amateur Radio Club and Richmond Amateur Radio Telecommunications Society have joined together in an effort to bring the local Scouting community the opportunity to share ideas and Scouting experience with their scouting peers around the world using two-way amateur radio. This year is the 6oth Jamboree on the Air , while the event is nationwide, local scouts at Camp Albright will be talking on HF, Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) on Brandmeister Talk-group 907 and on TAC310. There are amateurs planning to utilize PSK31, D-Star Radio and other modes of communication. This event held annually is this coming weekend, October 21st, scouts who make contacts will be given the 60th Annual JOTA Patch to commemorate their experiences. Thanks the Boy Scouts of America for allowing us the opportunity to hold this event for the many Scouts. Thanks to the Amateurs who are volunteering and to the local clubs and repater operators for their continued support of Scouting.
The portable repeater is on the air in Petersburg for testing / evaluation of a potential future repeater site. On first look, this test site may exceed the coverage of the existing repeater that is permanently installed there.
The frequency is still 444.5375 MHz (output). Please send reports about your on air experience.
The portable repeater test that was conducted in Goochland was a great success! Thanks to the team out there that made assessment of that site happen.
The portable repeater is currently on the air and deployed in Goochland County at a repeater site for a period of time for testing. The goal is to determine the feasability of implementing a full time permanent system in this area. The repeater is operating on a different frequency for this test – 444.5375 + 5 mhz. All typical TG’s apply, and local is patched to Richmond, Petersburg and BrandMeister Richmond repeaters. Test if you are able and send any reports along.
2100: The repeater is restored – a UPS was replaced.
1000: The Linden repeater is off the air temporarily today while some site work is accomplished. The repeater should be back online at some point today.
New codeplugs have been posted on the downloads page for all sorts of radios, including TYT, Connect System, Motorola, etc. These codeplugs has various changes that can be found in the codeplug change log. The update includes the new Linden repeater as well as the DMRVA portable repeater. Please let us know if you find any errors in these files.
Operators supporting the Special Olympics in the Richmond area will be using Timeslot 1 on the Richmond and Petersburg repeaters during the days of June 8 – 10th. All traffic on Richmond Local (TG 27500, TS1) will be managed by Special Olympics Net Control during this time.
Accordingly, all Talkgroups on Timeslot 1 will be unavailable for general amateur use during the duration of the Special Olympics nets. Please QRX but feel free to use VA Statewide (3151) and PRN (2) on Timeslot 2 as per usual.
Again, this only affects the Richmond and Petersburg machines. All other machines on the DMRVA network will be unaffected.

The Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club hosted the DMRVA team at a special meeting this afternoon for members to learn about DMR as well as the repeater network.
